Talent Tuesday: Linkedin's About Section: Tell Your Climate Story
Your About section is a chance to tell your climate story in a way that makes people remember you.

Helping Climate Founders Build & Retain Teams that Win — and Solve Climate Change
Hey guys,
BBQs are done. Labor Day’s over. Time to get your LinkedIn in shape because one of the hardest ‘labors’ is finding the right job in CleanTech.
In Today’s Issue:
👉The About Section: Tell Your Climate Story

The About Section: Tell Your Climate Story
TLDR: The About section is your climate elevator pitch: who you are, what you do, and why it matters. Write in first person, share your mission, and back it with tangible expertise.
Most people blow their About section.
They write in stiff, third-person language:
“John Doe is an experienced engineer passionate about renewable energy.”
Sounds like a resume from 2005. Forgettable.
Your About section is not a resume. It’s a story. A handshake. A chance to say: “Here’s who I am, here’s what I’ve done, and here’s why it matters in climate tech.”
Rule #1: Write in First Person
Don’t say “Paula is a…”. Say: “I design…” or “I build…” or “I lead…” Hiring managers want to know you, not some corporate bio version.
Rule #2: Lead With Mission
In climate tech, people connect with mission. If you’re in it to decarbonize, accelerate the energy transition, or scale climate solutions — say it upfront.
Example:
“I’m an engineer focused on accelerating the clean energy transition by building scalable, cost-effective wind turbine systems.”
Rule #3: Highlight Expertise
Showcase your technical or sector-specific skills but keep it digestible. Don’t just list jargon. Translate it into value.
Example:
“Over the past 6 years, I’ve worked on utility-scale solar projects that now power 150,000 homes.”
Rule #4: Add Personality
Share one or two things that make you memorable like your passion for community energy programs, your immigrant background, or even the Snoopy hat you always wear at climate events. (Like I shared two editions ago!) People remember stories, not lists.
Why It Matters
Climate founders and hiring managers don’t just hire skills. They hire people who seem intentional, driven, and aligned with the mission. Your About section makes you human and not some manufactured robot.
Action Item:
Rewrite your About in first person. Own your mission. Add tangible wins. Sprinkle in a bit of personality. Don’t miss the opportunity to share about your WHY in your Linkedin ABOUT section.
